The Kid Protection Squad of Brevard is one of two core partners co-located at the Children's Advocacy Center and works collaboratively to ensure the best possible outcome for children and families in our community.
The Kid Protection Team of Brevard is i of 22 statewide medically directed programs nether the auspices of the Florida Department of Wellness – Children'south Medical Services, and provides expert evaluation of alleged child abuse and neglect maltreatment at the Children's Advocacy Middle.
The Child Protection Team Programme operates on the premise that child corruption and neglect is a multifaceted problem requiring a multidisciplinary response to kid protective investigations.
Mission
"To promote the safety and well-beingness of Florida's children past providing medically led multidisciplinary cess services for children suspected of being abused or neglected."
The purpose of the program is to supplement the child protective investigation activities of the Department of Children and Families, and Police Enforcement involved in child abuse and neglect investigations. Child Protection Teams may besides provide assessments to Customs Based Care Providers to assist in case planning activities when resource are available . Intervention in child abuse and neglect is promoted through multidisciplinary staffings, expert court testimony, direct service referrals and recommendations that support child safety.
With a referral from the Section of Children and Families or Law Enforcement, our Child Protection Squad can provide the post-obit services:
- Forensic Medical Examinations at Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard and local hospitals
- Forensic Interviews of Children (sound/video recorded, structured, fact finding, objective interviews designed to illicit details of an issue)
- Multidisciplinary Team staffings
- Psychosocial Assessments
- Psychological Evaluations
- Adept court testimony
- 24/seven consultation and emergency services
- Grooming to community professionals on abuse and neglect indicators
The teams' comprehensive multidisciplinary cess activities are critical in identifying and evaluating child abuse, abandonment and neglect, assessing risk and protective factors, providing recommendations for effective interventions and handling to protect children, heighten a caregiver's capacity to provide a safer environment when possible, too as securing successful long-term outcomes for children and families. Consistent with the legislative intent of the Child Protection Squad program and the Department of Health'southward mission, the Child Protection Team objectives include:
- Prevention of child corruption and neglect is promoted through consultation with other agencies, preparation of professionals, and educating the public.
- Identification of child corruption and fail is promoted through assessment activities that focus on child maltreatment and safety and run a risk factors.
- Intervention in child abuse and neglect is promoted through multidisciplinary staffings, skilful court testimony, straight service referrals and recommendations that support child prophylactic.
If kid corruption or neglect is reported to the Florida Abuse Hotline and accepted for investigation, the case is automatically eligible for Kid Protection Team assessment. There are no financial criteria for CPT services.
The Florida Department of Children & Families is some other core partner at the Children's Advancement Centre of Brevard with ane of viii Child Protective Investigation Units in the county co-located at the Advocacy Centre.
The law in Florida states that anyone who knows or has reason to suspect that a child has been abused, abased or neglected by an adult is required to report their concerns to the Florida Abuse Hotline by calling one.800.96.ABUSE (1.800.962.2873).
The Florida Department of Children & Families is responsible for investigating child abuse allegations reported to the Florida Corruption Hotline involving family members as the alleged offender.
The Child Protective Investigation unit at the CACB is assigned the most egregious child abuse and neglect maltreatment cases in Brevard County and conducts county-wide investigations. All the same, whatever DCF Protective Investigation unit in the county can refer a child abuse investigation example to the Child Protection Team.
Mandatory Criteria for Referral to the Child Protection Team for Assessment
The police in Florida also mandates that certain types of kid abuse and fail reports must be referred to the Child Protection Team past the Section of Children and Families.
These include allegations involving:
- Injuries to the head, bruises to the neck or head, burns, or fractures in a child of any age
- Bruises anywhere on a child five years of age or younger
- Whatsoever written report alleging sexual abuse of a child
- Any sexually transmitted disease in a prepubescent child
- Reported malnutrition or failure of a kid to thrive
Reported medical neglect of a kid - Symptoms of serious psychological issues in a child when emotional or other abuse, abandonment, or neglect is suspected
- A sibling or other child remaining in a home where ane or more children accept been pronounced dead on inflow or accept been injured and afterwards died as a result of suspected abuse, abandonment or neglect.
These include cases involving more serious injuries to children, such as head and cervix injuries, bone fractures and burns every bit well every bit cases of suspected sexual corruption and medical neglect. Cases involving bruises to immature children or the suspicious death of a sibling must also be referred to the Child Protection Squad for cess.
Constabulary Enforcement is responsible for investigating kid corruption allegations / crimes against children involving non familial members as the alleged offender.
